DIRTY PLAY LEADS TO SUSPENSIONS

Ranger Dan Carrillo suspended for 10 games for his conduct after/du ring a scuffle last night.  He was ejected from the game early in the first foe abuse of an official. Upon review, they say he violated rule 40.3 physical abuse of officials which is an Automatic min of 10 games.  The rules in ludes contact even without intent to injure. The official was trying to get Carrillo into the penalty box when there was, in my opinion, a minimal amount of contact. But the rule is there to protect everyone so there you go.  You can watch the video here http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=720443&navid=nhl:topheads

In that same game, Canadien Brandon prust gets a 2 game suspension for his hit on Stepan which
ends up breaking Stephan's jaw.  The hit was clearly late and Proust appeared to make a
conscious effort to check him after the play had moved on. He hit with his shoulder & shoved up
Flipping Stepan over.

CANUCKS GET NEW GM

Jim Benning is the new canucks GM.  He is a former canuck, but it seems he is most impressive in picking quality players.  Here's the scoop from the NHL website:

A press conference will be held Friday at Rogers Arena to officially introduce the 11th general manager in Canucks franshise history; Linden is excited for fans and media alike to meet Benning, a 51-year-old from Edmonton, Alberta, who was most recently assistant general manager of the Boston Bruins.
Vancouver’s GM search was extensive and thorough and at the end of the day Benning not only fit the profile of what Linden wanted, the synergy between the two was strong.
“There were moments of clarity for me in speaking with Jim that we just really connected on a hockey level,” said Linden. “Our beliefs on how success is built in the National Hockey League were very aligned. Benning’s NHL resume speaks for itself, from his work in helping assemble the 2011 Stanley Cup champion Bruins, including drafting Milan Lucic, Brad Marchand, Tyler Seguin and Dougie Hamilton, to his 10-year success as scout and director of amateur scouting in Buffalo, during which time the Sabres selected Ryan Miller, Jason Pominville and Thomas Vanek, among others. All in all, as a member of the Sabres and Bruins, Benning had a combined 47 of 109 players drafted play in the NHL, an impressive success rate of 43 per cent.
