BLUELINE BUZZ round 2 - day 4

Round 2 - Day 3

I didn't get to see any of the games today (family stuff) so i'm going completely off the boxscores. My Blueline Buzz player of the day is

ANZE KOPITAR
with an assist on all 3 King goals tonight!

BEARS BOUNCEBACK

what? I go jog with my kids and the score is canadiens 3, bruins 1.  I come back 30 minutes later and the bruins have won 5-3. just another reason NOT to jog!

BLUELINE BUZZ - Round 2 Day 2 ReCap

I'm adding a new feature, with the nightly recapp, the BLUELINE BUZZ. Each night i'll pick 1 (ok maybe 2) key players from the night. Complete with pics - enjoy and feel free to disagree & comment. Who would you have picked from last night?

RANGERS 3 PENGUINS 2  IN OT
FLABERGASTED FLEURY couldn't stop the puck.  He was flopping and rolling like a fish out of water trying to stop that last goal but just couldn't do it. He's on again/off again.  last night he was off and KING HENRIK was on!
But the pens have sidney crosby who has yet to score a goal in the playoffs?  how can a team with "the best" player in the nhl right now, but last night had -3??!!??!!  Sid & Sutter better get it together before they find themselves watching the cup from their living room!

BLACKHAWKS 5  WILD 2
GOALIE WOES continue to haunt the wild. With Kuemper hurt, Bzygaolv is in, but when the blackhawks score 5 goals in only 21 shots - well part of that has to be the goalies responsiblity.  it's not looking good for the wildmen unless Kuemper gets back soon.
Give credit to the bhawks thought - they were on point. Both Kane & Bickell had 2 goals each combined with Sharp, Seabs & Hossa all with 2 assists each. that's a combo that just can't be beat!  the hawks could beat anybody right now!

BLUELINE BLAZERS - ok i'm staring with 4 because this combo won't be on the dollar menu!
Patrick Kane, Bryan Bickell, Patrick Sharp, Brent Seabrook, Marian Hossa
2 of them are gingers - but i'm not partial or anything, just sayin'

anyone care to disagree?

DUCK SEASON IS OPEN! Round 2 Day 3

DUCK SEASON IS OPEN AND THE KINGS ARE GOING HUNTIN'

HISTORY: this is the first time these 2 teams have ever met in a playoff game, but the ducks won the regular season matchup ups taking 4 of the 5.  all 4 of those wins were in either OT or Shootout.  Sounds like it'll be a late night tonight!

FROM THE CREASE: goalie report
QUICK - is crazy good, just like a pop-tart!  he always does well in the playoffs - expect him to be a wall.
HILLER OR ANDERSEN -  as of last night we don't know who the ducks goalie will be - that's a killer. lack of leadship in that position is detremental to the confidence of the whole team.  Andersen has started all the playoff games thus far and Hiller has only taken 1 shot.  If it ain't broke, don't fix it - i'd go with andersen, but we'll see.

Andersen

Hiller

CAREY PRICE V. TUUKKA RASK (or Montreal Canadiens v. Boston Bruins)

HISTORY: The canadiens have won 5 straight in the playoffs and seems like they are the hot-hot-hot-team of the day.  But the bruins have been here before. The #1 team in the league heading to the playoffs lost the first game to the flyers then won 4 in a row.

FROM THE CREASE: goalie report
RASK - my personal fav goalie right now.  his stats are amazing (GAA 1.52 SV% .946) but stats don't put points on the board.  He's got to stay focused to stop the puck!
PRICE - in game 1 - he was killer stopping 48 of 51 shots thru double OT.  Keep doing what he's doing and the puck just won't get past him!

no live updates tonight - family stuff. enjoy the pics!

Round 2 Day 2

No live updates tonight, family stuff to do. but here's a preview

IN THE CREASE: A GOALIE REPORT

Wild v Blackhawks (sorry i couldn't come up with anything catchy but i'll work on it)
Wild Woe's:  Ilya Bryzgalov will likely start in goal tonight as Kuemper was injured late in the 3rd period during the game against the avs.  Bryzie stoped 1 goal in OT that night before the wild won the game but his regular season numbers are really bad. GAA 4.25 - remember that means he allows over 4 goals per game & SV& of .826 which means he only stops 82% of the shots on goal.  Remember that Kuemper was a late pick-up after the other 2 wild goalies were injured.

Blackhawk get a Break:  Corey Crawford, will be in goal for the hawks and he has  1.98 GAA and a save percentage of .935. that's amazing!

Rangers v. Penguins
Rangers: King Henrik is back - after a scary performance & being pulled in game 6, he was back to true form when the rangers beat the flyers in game 7.  definately the best looking goalie in the NHL, and he can play! # for the playoffs: GAA 2.11 SV% .919
Penguins: Marc-Andre fleury - has been on/off all season, but he can step it up when it counts - and it counts now! # for the playoffs: GAA 2.81  SV% .908

just for good measure - these 2 might melt the ice tonight!

TORTS IS TOAST!

Vancouver Canucks head coach john tortrella & assistant coach mike sullivan have both been fired today! the real question is why were they ever hired?

ok, so he coached the tampa bay lightning to a stanley cup victory in 2004, and was, in 2008, the most sucessful american-born coach. but his career was riddled by outbursts toward refs & even the press which resulted in fines & suspensions, including a  suspension after an encounter with the calgary coach this season.

He was picked up as rangers head coach in 2009 but was fired after last season when they lost in round 2 to the boston bruins (wow, deja vu???).

welcome to "celebrity wife swap".  at the same time, the canucks fired head coach Alain Vigneault, after they lost in round 1 to the sharks.  and wow - the rangers hired vigneault & the canucks hired torts.

torts himself, after not making the playoffs this year for the first time in a long time, admited that he had not been "on the ice" enough to implement his change.  Um i'm pretty sure that coaching an NHL team isn't a "stay at home" type of job.  these questional changes included changing the way the sedin brothers play and resulted in lowering every single players stats from last season.

shall we start talking about goalies now???  we had Roberto Luango & cory schnieder.  Lu was very vocal ...did I say whiney...about wanting to be traded after being replaced by cory late in the season but his contract was too large (crying becuase he makes too much money to sit on the bench????)  but instead of just getting rid of the crybaby, no we let cory schneider go.  but wait, then right at the trade deadline, florida panthers said they'd take Lu and we end up with 2 rookie goalies heading into the playoffs. I love Eddie Lack - but he wasn't seasoned enough to complete in the playoffs.

so - what now?
1 - canucks management needs to decide what they want to do and getting a new pres seems like a good start. they have to take some of the blame for the circus that has been the last 2 seasons.
2 - keep ryan kesler at all costs
3 - get a veteran goalie

Go Canucks!

Round 2 Bruins v. Canadiens - who are you more afraid of?

who are you more afraid of?

History: Bloody!  this could get ugly! There are 2 of the original 6 NHL teams.
the habs took 3 out of 4 in the regular season this year.

Bruins: Daniel Paille may return tonight but Brad Marchand was not at practice Tuesday, but was back on Wednesday.

Canadiens: have had a week off to get ready, but was that too much time? Carey price has a gold metal & 4 years experience.

But the bruins have Tuukka Rask - will that be enough to win it?  this is their 34th meeting in post season!

PK Subban with a powerplay goal - Snap shot . this is his first goal in 24 games.
ASST: Andrei Markov (1), Tomas Plekanec

I wish the bruins would wear black socks instead of yellow - i just can't get with these uniforms.

Canadiens 2nd goal by rene bourque

assist by lars eller

canadiens lead 2-0, rask is not happy - he broke his water bottle!

Bruins Score! Reilly Smith with a Wrist shot - ASST: Brad Marchand (1), Dougie Hamilton
now with a power play too

Bruins tie it up! 2-2
Torey Krug (2) Slapshot - ASST: Milan Lucic (2), Patrice Bergeron

frankie boullion gets the lead back for montreal
Francis Bouillon (1) Snap shot - ASST: Brian Gionta

bruins tie it up 3-3 with 2 minutes left

love these photos - while we're waiting on ot to start

the bruins have 50 shots on goal - what a game for carey price

going to 2nd overtime! canadiens have a powerplay!

PK Subban scores a ppg in the 2nd OT - canadiens win game 1 4-3
