Olympians v The Cup

saw an article about this and i thought it would be fun. Maybe you're not a hockey fan YET, but you did watch the winter olympics?  ok so heres a list of the stanley cup players who were in the olypmics.  Maybe that will help you decide. These are the teams in the EASTERN conference.

  • Penguins (2): Sidney Crosby - Penguins, played for Canada, everyone love "take a dive" crosby...well except every fan of every other team in league.  penguin fans love him, the rest of us hate him regarless of the fact that he is a good player, sorry sid.  Evegni Malkin - Penguins, played for Russia, ranks #8 in points in the regular season & has 2 assists thus far in the playoffs.  these guys are just 2 of the things that make the penguins a great team.
  • Rangers (6): Rick Nash,  played for Canada. Derek Stepan,  played for USA; Mats Zuccerello, played for Norway; Carl Hagelin, played for sweden & last but definately not least goalie Henrik Lundqvist, modeled, oppos I mean played for Sweden. Despite the number of olympians, I didn't really give the rangers much of a chance but they are tied 1-1 with the rangers at this point. Oh almost forgot Martin St Louis (actually playing for lightning when he went) but was traded later for Callahan.
  • Canadiens (1): Carey Price, played for Canada.  he is about to keep the lightning out of the playoffs as they are already up 3games to 0.  Their sucess is unexpected but being the only canadien based team in the playoffs, they really want to bring the cup back to canada.
  • Bruins (4): David Krejci & Patrice Bergeron both played for Czech Republic (ok you guys should be recognizing some of these name by now). Zdeno Chara, played for Slovakia and is said to be one of the nicest & most genlemanly players on the ice. Tukka Rask, played for Finland (ok you should know that name too) and is one of the best goalies in the NHL.
  • Redwings (10): yes that was 10 - but they've got to beat the bruins to make it any further in the cup.  6 of them played for Sweden: Henrik Zetterberg, Daniel Alfredsson, Niklas Kronwall, Jonathan Ericsson, Johan Franzen  & Jonas Gustavsson.  If you remember, sweden won the silver medal so maybe these guys had something to do with that? Also playing are Jimmy Howard, USA who got the goalie start over roberto luango, Pavel Datsuyk played for Russia;  Tomas Tartar & Tomas Jurco played for Slovakia.  that's a lot of experience under pressure, but can they make it past the bruins?
  • Tampa Bay Lightning (7): even though they are almost out of the playoff, still a shout-out to the olympians.  From the czech republic: Oundrej Palat (my favorite player, incredible rookie) & Radko Gudas (our enforcer); Kristers Gudlevskis played for latvia. this is the lightning, back-up, back-up goalie.  Sami salo & Valtterri Filppua both played for finland although Val was injuried. Richard Panik played for Slovakia & Steven Stamkos for Canada (also injured).  Martin St. Louis also played for canada but was later traded to the rangers so he is listed there.
  • Columbus Blue Jackets (5) - columbus is the cinderella team right now having beaten the penguins once,  what does that tell you about the penguins if we are excited that someone beat them ONCE?  Sergei Bobrovsky, Artem anisimov, Fedor Tyutin, & Nikita Nikitin were all on the Russian team. Marian Gaborik played  for slovokia.
  • Flyers (5) - Michael Raffi played austria; Mark Streit, Switzerland; Jake Voracek, czech republic; kimmo timonen, finland & Andrej Meszaros for slokavia
